You might not know, but NACT has a large fund that is used to support local chapter activities each year. If you need money to host a NEW event, meeting, or activity, you can apply to the Jim Evan’s Fund Development Grant. The application procedure is relatively simple. All you have to do is click on “Jim Evans Fund” on the National ACT Web site. Read the instructions included in the PDF document, and complete the application materials and you’re set! The national officers will review your request for money and get back to you promptly!

COLLEGE STATION -- More than 100 college students attended a professional development seminar hosted by the TAMU chapter of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow January 20 through January 22.
The seminar boasted attendees from eight universities and seven states.
“We hope this seminar gave members chances to not only get some great career-building advice from our speakers, but to network with other students within the industry. These are people they will see over and over again in professional settings, and this is a great time to make those connections,” said Megan Knight, president of the TAMU chapter of ACT.
Gena Parsons from Blinn College, Erin Worrell from the Texas Beef Council, Rob Hendrickson from Access, and Warren Mayberry from Texas Farm Bureau were featured speakers at the event.
"Students attending the ACT conference are in a unique position to gain knowledge about their potential career, meet and interact with industry representatives and network with their peers,” said Worrell. “These students are the future wave of employees entering the agricultural communications field and it is for their benefit as well as the benefit of the agricultural industry to expose these students to speakers and topics relevant to current and future issues."

ACT members and advisors:
It's time to start thinking about your entries for National ACT Critique and Contest.  You can earn recognition for all the hard work and time you have put into those projects throughout the past year.

The annual National ACT Critique and Contest provides students with the opportunity to have their work critiqued by industry professionals.  These people have a sound understanding of what the industry is looking for and can offer you advice in improving your communications skills.

Students need to begin preparing, as the deadline for all entries is April 1, 2006.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the critique and contest, please feel free to write me at abwoodwa@purdue.edu or call me at (317)491-4333. Please visit the NACT Web site for an updated version of the Critique & Contest rules.

Sincerely,
Ashley Woodward
First Vice President
